Ambassador Pangilinan at Corvinus

11 April 2019, Budapest, Hungary – Ambassador Maria Fe T. Pangilinan met with Corvinus University officials Dr. László Csicsmann, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and International Relations, International Studies Institute and Dr. Éva Blénesi, Professor of Spatial Development and Regionalization. Ambassador Pangilinan and Dr. Csicsmann discussed, among other matters, developments in line with PH-Hungary Educational and Scientific Exchange Programme as well as Corvinus University’s programs and activities.

Ambassador Pangilinan’s visit to Corvinus University was upon Dr. Blénesi’s invitation for the Ambassador to participate in a book project entitled “Women Who Make a Difference. The Changing Face of Diplomacy in the 21st Century.”

The book project is based on Dr. Blénesi’s interviews with Lady Ambassadors accredited to Hungary concerning the Ambassadors’ professional and personal lives and their views on the role of women diplomats in a globalized world.

After the meeting with University officials, Ambassador Pangilinan was video-interviewed by Dr. Blénesi in front of the students of the Spatial Development and Regionalization class, where she answered questions about her life and experiences as a career women diplomat and challenges encountered in her profession. The students, majority
of whom were international students, had the opportunity for a Q and A session.

To liven up and spice up interest about the Philippines and the topic, Philippine chocolates and dried mangoes were passed around for the students to taste and share.

Corvinus University of Budapest had its historic beginnings since the 1800s but was officially established in 1920. It is one of the major public higher education institutions in Hungary having prominent alumni, Hungarian or other nationals, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, who have graduated from the institution. There are currently two Filipino PhD scholars enrolled in Corvinus under the Stipendium Hungaricum programme.
